Tips & Tricks for Selling Your Dream Car

Now that you have detailed your car and determined a realistic price its time to put it on the market. There are several good ways to advertise you car. I have read that near 90% of buyer’s research cars on the internet and about 30% of cars are sold on-line. On-line is great for hard to find cars or collector cars. For regular used cars local newspaper classified ads and a “For Sale” sign on the car work well. EBAY MOTORS is my favorite place to post ads, they have a free local listing and rates are cheap for a regular listing, “my ads cost $22 for 7 days with a $100 final sales fee when the car sells”. To look at one of my EBAY Motors listing 1.Go to EBAY Motors 2. Look for the search box, to the right of it is advance search “click it”. 3. Look on the left side for the seller link, click it and enter my seller name rjkw. Local free listings are great, I love Craigs List, weekly shoppers and giveaway newspapers.

·      Gather information: year model, history, mileage, VIN, list of all options,  maintenance records, positive points and defects.

·      Take several good photos of all sides of the car, interior, engine compartment, trunk and interior. Make sure you take these on a low resolution setting on your camera so they upload fast to the internet. Low setting looks the same as high on the internet car sites. The car should fill the frame of the photograph, the back round should be neutral, lighting is a big deal (early morning or late afternoon light is generally the best for photos). Bright cloudy days are the best light and of course have your back to the sun.

·      Be honest with you your information; tell about dents, rust and other defects. Also use terms light “shines like a diamond”, “cold air”, “runs strong”, “dependable car” you got the idea.

·      Some states have a curb-siding law. This is a law that prevents sellers from parking in public places with for sale signs on their cars. Usually you will just get a warning; it’s not fun to have your car towed.

·      My last word of advice! On any listing it is very important to put your name, email, and phone number. The easier you are to reach, the more inquires you will receive.
