Curb Appeal - Making Your Car Look Good
First impressions
are worth a lot of money in your pocket! I have found that most
people know in the first few minutes whether or not they are going
to buy your car. Just a few quick looks are going to make or
break your sale.
If they see a dirty car with junk inside it's a big turn off and your price goes way down. Or you might lose the sale all together.
We don't want you to lose your sale or be forced to lower your asking price so we've put together a few tips and tricks from our 30 years of selling vintage cars.
Even though some of these tips sound simple, they are the things that will make a buyer fall in love with your classic.
Clean Out Your Car - Take everything out
of the car, including the glove box, dash, trunk and console.
Make sure to remove any "personal effects", this includes all
air fresheners, fuzzy dice, bobble heads and remove any
stickers or decals.
Clean Your Car - This goes beyond just a
vacuum and a wash job. Clean the windows, wipe down the
interior, clean the door jambs, clean the wheels and tires,
clean the engine too! When you are vacuuming the car make sure
to thoroughly vacuum the trunk as well.
Touch Up The Paint - Buy some
touch-up paint (available in almost any color from Wal-Mart,
AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, or any other parts store. Use
the paint to touch-up any chips or scratches.
Apply a preservative and dressing to all the rubber, vinyl,
and leather surfaces on the exterior and the interior of the
car (Armor All, Finish, 2001, etc..). Don't forget to apply a
tire dressing/shine.
Clean and Detail Your Engine - Spray an engine detailer
under the hood, this is the easiest way to make the engine
compartment look fresh and clean. STP makes a very nice product
that makes everything look nice and clean but does not have a
really high gloss.
Wax Your Car - Turtle Wax has a new product called "ICE".
It can be applied in direct sunlight and comes with an
applicator and polishing cloth. ICE can be applied to all
surfaces including rubber, chrome, and semi-flat painted
surfaces. It makes rubber look new and gives flat painted
surfaces a nice luster.
Make Your Car Smell Good - Do not use a "fruity" scented
car smell. Use a "New Car Smell" scent.
Service Your Car - Do a complete full routine service,
change the oil, check all fluid levels and make sure to check
the tire pressures.
